my basement is now open to refugees and asylum seekers. through two organizations: open homes and rooms for refugees. you can open a room in your house too. just go to those links and you can register your place.
in association with various groups (like positive action, care, solidarity now, all hands and hearts, and international rescue committee) that assign a case worker to each housed person/family, you can help someone get their feet on the ground in their new country and make them feel welcome here. i’ve agreed to accept people for month-long stays.

i straightened up the basement and added a shower to the bathroom down there so it’s all ready. don’t know what to expect next, but i’ll let you know when i find out!
